Unionville Museum

Recently, I spent some time volunteering at the Unionville Museum in Unionville, Connecticut. While there, I was able to develop a deeper understanding of how museums are managed and how artifacts are stored. I spent the majority of my time filing and organizing artifacts, and consequently learned a lot about the history of Unionville and how the town had grown and changed over time. I learned a lot about the Flood of 1955 and the damage that it had caused, as well as the factories and companies that had been replaced many years ago. The staff I worked with were wonderful and inclusive, and I could tell that they cared significantly about the work that they were doing. As we sorted through several boxes of history, they had personal anecdotes and memories that made each artifact more meaningful and significant. I enjoyed my time at the museum, and would encourage you to visit and check out everything that they have to offer!
The most recent exhibition that is coming up is the Soda Fountains, Luncheonettes & More exhibit which will explore the restaurants and diners that have made their place in Unionville’s history, going as far back as the 1800s to present-day eateries. The exhibit will run from September 19th to November 20th every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM. Admission is completely free of charge, and you will receive a wonderful experience as well as information about historical Unionville. Staff at the Museum have worked incredibly hard to put together the exhibit, and I highly recommend stopping by!
